Transportation Services

The Richland County Transportation Program provides three transportation options for residents of Richland County.

Transportation services are funded through grants, county levy and co-pay’s to the transportation program. Each year the program applies for an s85.21 grant through Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The grant is comprised of state and local match funding and is dedicated to the transportation of the elderly and disabled residents of rural counties in Wisconsin.

Richland County Public Transportation

Richland County Public Transportation is available to anyone and everyone for any purpose along one of our routes.

  • Public Transportation available to anyone
  • Bus will pick-up within three miles of routes
  • Bus will pick-up at your home
  • $3 one-way; $5 round-trip (Pre-paid punch cards are available)
  • Six routes throughout Richland County
  • Ride to and from Richland Center on any route
  • Connect with surrounding county routes (click here for more information)
  • Reservations are required at least one business day (24hrs) prior. Call 608-647-4616 for reservations
  • Bus Routes DO NOT run without reservations.
  • Contact the Transportation Secretary if you live beyond three miles of a route for options
  • Routes do not transport on weekends or holiday’s
  • Live in Richland Center? You can ride out on any of our routes and spend the day in one of our communities or connect with surrounding counties route.

Routes: All routes originate in Richland Center and service the communities along the route.

A route will only go to the alternate destination city upon request otherwise all routes will return to Richland Center.

For example, Hwy 56 West on the 2nd Monday will only go to Viroqua if someone requests to go there, otherwise the route will come back to Richland Center for the day.

What happens when you ride the bus?

  • Leave the driving to us and visit with other passengers, read, knit etc.
  • Passengers can visit two or three places in the destination city; as time allows
  • All passengers destinations will be coordinated to make the best use of time
  • There is no additional charge for stops in the destination city
  • Driver’s will assist passengers on and off the vehicle and help secure any packages

Where else does Richland County Public Transportation go?

Richland County Public Transportation connects with two other counties to help our residents travel beyond Richland County and the destination cities we transport to.

Vernon County

LaCrosse: On the days that Richland County Public Transportation transports to Readstown, La Farge or Viroqua it is possible to transfer to the Vernon County bus and go to La Crosse. Reservations are required for both the Richland County and Vernon County bus routes and can be coordinated through the Richland County Transportation Coordinator at 608-647-4616. Two days notice is needed for this coordination.

Are there day trips or group outings available through Richland County Public Transportation?

There are plans to coordinate group trips in the future. Trips in consideration are: American Player’s Theater, Richland County Fair, fall color tours, Veteran’s Day programs, Rotary lights, etc.

If you have an idea for a group trip please contact our Transportation Secretary to make suggestions.

Groups interested in utilizing the bus for a trip can contact the Transportation Secretary for rates.

Driver Escort Program

Driver Escort program provides transportation primarily for elderly or disabled individuals to medical appointments within an 85-mile radius of Richland Center. Local taxi service provides transportation within Richland Center City limits.

Overview

  • Service is available to elderly (60+) or disabled residents of Richland County
  • Anyone can ride along on an already scheduled medical trip provided there is a seat available.
  • Transportation is primarily available for medical appointments – doctor, therapist, chiropractor, dentist, optometrist, physical therapy, etc.
  • Program is available Monday through Friday except Holidays
  • Scheduling is through the Transportation Secretary at 608-647-4616
  • Reservations are required three working days prior to the trip
  • When possible multiple passengers will be coordinated to transport at the same time in the same vehicle. There will be wait times for passengers based on the appointment times of all passengers in the vehicle.

Co-Payments

  • 0 – 100 miles $20.00
  • 101 – 140 miles $25.00
  • 141 – 170 miles $30.00
  • 171 – 200 miles $40.00

Inclusa (formerly Community Link) and My Choice Wisconsin (formerly Care Wisconsin): The Driver Escort Program contracts with Inclusa and My Choice Wisconsin– contact your Care Manager to discuss transportation options through Richland County.

Medical Assistance/BadgerCare: Persons on Medical Assistance/BadgerCare who need a ride should contact Veyo by calling 866-907-1493, or online at: https://member.veyo.com/member-landing.

Wheel Chair Lift Van

Richland County has a wheel chair lift van that is available to transport persons outside of Richland County to medical appointments within 85 miles of Richland Center.

The vehicle is available with prior reservations through the Transportation Secretary at 608-647-4616.

Cost will be calculated based on location of passenger and medical appointment. Cost will include an hourly rate for the driver, mileage of round-trip from the Community Services Building at 221 W. Seminary Street, and a coordination fee.

Please contact the Transportation Coordinator for reservations, quotes and additional information.
